Myotherapy specialises in the assessment, treatment and prevention of muscular pain and dysfunction.  Myotherapy sessions involve an extensive physical assessment, and predominantly direct treatment at tight, painful muscles.  This form of hands on manual therapy can be used for both acute and chronic conditions as well as preventative management.  Complementing these ‘hands on’ modalities, myotherapists also carry out dry needling, electrical stimulation, taping, pain management techniques and prescriptive exercises.

Myotherapy has developed rapidly since its initial promotion in the 1970’s by Bonie Prudden and subsequent pioneering research conducted by Travell and Simons. Myotherapy is now recognised within the allied health field due to the inclusion of various assessment and treatment modalities currently being taught at a Bachelor/Degree level.

Myotherapy is claimable under various types of extras cover with most health funds.
